Photo Gallery | Summer ArtSplash

For those of you who haven’t heard about the Summer ArtSplash, it is a self guided tour of downtown Stockton venues filled with art that takes place on the second Friday of May – October from 5 pm – 8 pm, now in its third year.

Venues volunteer to stay open late and house art exhibits and performances for the public.  Nicholas Hatten, the Director of the San Joaquin Pride Center, a venue that has embraced the ArtSplash said that it is the center’s best attended event.  Nicholas has taken over programming the Pride Center with artists and supplying beautiful receptions with lavish food offerings (this month the Pride Center had a mashed potato bar with all the fixins).

The ArtSplash provides artists and performers venues, free of charge, to be seen. Emerging artists and those who love to share their work for the joy of it present a wide variety of mediums and experiences to an eager public.  One zealous artist, Felicia Ruiz, stayed for about 8 hours under the Regal dome creating chalk masterpieces for new movies in association with the ArtSplash.  Felicia is content to hone her skills and greet the public – no other compensation needed.

As for me, from time to time I show my art at the ArtSplash but what gratifies me even more is coordinating the event – finding the venues, artists and performers and seeing the happiness that a free art event like the ArtSplash brings to Stockton – Priceless.

There are two more ArtSplash events this year – Friday, September 12 and Friday, October 10.  If you are a downtown Stockton venue or are an artist/performer that would like to participate, please contact me at dibsonart@yahoo.com
