Strong winds, cooler temps expected all day Tuesday

Hold on to your hats and secure the loose items around your yard! The wind is blowing today!

A Wind Advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday as north winds funnel down through the valleys sweeping from Marysville through Modesto. Winds will be strongest this afternoon. Most areas can expect gusting winds up to 45 mph until late in the day, according to News10 meteorologist Mellisa Paul.

Along with the winds, a cooler air mass is helping to drop our temperatures by another 10 degrees. Paul said Tuesday highs in the Valleys will be in the upper 50s, mid 50s for the foothills and the mid 30s for the Sierra.

Tuesday night skies will be clear and will stay mostly clear for the balance of the week. Without the winds keeping the warmer air closer to the surface, we'll see lows fall to the 30s.

We then turn our attention to the weekend and next week with a major pattern change expected.

Clouds will move in late Saturday with a chance of rain Sunday and Monday and perhaps a large part of next week, said Paul. The overall pattern is looking cooler and wetter than normal starting next week and lasting into the following week. This is a big shift from the record breaking warm, sunny weather we've had for the past few days.
