'Cause for Paws' fundraiser to benefit Manteca Animal Services April 16

MANTECA - Prestige Senior Living at Manteca welcomes to the community to "Cause for for the Paws," a canine fundraiser with contest, demonstrations, activities and food to benefit Manteca Animal Services, on Saturday, April 16. The event will take place at the facility located at 1130 Empire Avenue, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The community is encouraged to attend and bring their four-legged best friends.

The fundraiser will feature a dog show with three classes: smallest, biggest and best dressed. Entries for the the contest are $5 per dog. Prestige will also be selling dog treats for $1, and there will be a variety of vendors offering products for everyone's beloved canines.

For those looking for a furry friend, Manteca Animal Services will coordinate onsite pet adoptions, and Prestige will also play host to a mobile dog groomer and pet-friendly barbeque.

Lisa Genereux sent in this photo of her two dogs, Tanner and puppy Joey. She said her family rescued collie Tanner in Stagecoach, NV four years ago when he was just a puppy with a severely infected eye. His eye was eventually saved and he's become a great dog.

Genereux said Joey is the border collie aussie mix puppy in the photo with Tanner.

"A man said he was the ugliest of a litter and was going to take him to the pound. We think he is adorable and brought him home," she said.

Manteca library presents Paws 4 Reading on Saturdays

MANTECA - The Manteca Branch Library, located at 320 West Center Street, will host Paws 4 Reading on Saturdays, March 5, 12, 19 and 26 at 2 p.m. each day. Therapy dogs will be available in the library on Saturdays from 2 - 4 p.m.

Children are invited to bring a book or select one from the library's collection to read with one of the dogs. They can take turns reading one-on-one with a canine friend. The dogs' owners will assist as needed.
