Barnwood Restaurant hosts Wednesday wine dinners

RIPON - Barnwood Restaurant has been hosting wine dinners for more than 25 years in the city of Ripon. Our wine dinners are held the last Wednesday of every month and we try to showcase California wineries as well as wine makers. The dinner usually involves dishes that are either fan favorites or something new we are creating. Restaurant owner John Mangelos and his sister, Ella, have written two cookbooks using recipes from the 275 wine dinners they've done.

The Gnarly Head vineyards produce some great local wine from some of the oldest vines in the area. They sell their wines for a price even a budget connoisseur can afford, and the Chardonnay is an example of their quality. At the 2009 California State Fair Wine Competition, Gnarly Head Chardonnay won the gold medal. After one taste of this white you'll understand why.

You know how you should never judge a book by its cover? Well…you should never judge a town by its news coverage.

Working in the media for years, whenever I drive by a new city or an area, the first thing that pops in my head will be “oh, that’s where that fire happened” or “oh, that’s where they found so-and-so.” You know how it is…every place has a story.

So when I had to visit a friend in Tracy, the story that popped in my head was, “The unidentified blue lights of Tracy.” Not that there’s anything wrong with UFOs. They are cool, but I was wondering what else I was going to find there.

Yelp for Restaurant Chains

Here’s a four letter word that makes many businesses cower and cry: YELP.


In the past several months, the 3fold team has helped two national  restaurant chains with their local marketing efforts. While there have been all sorts of fun things we’ve done for these brands (including working with fabulous food bloggers), one social tool stands out. Setting up, promoting and managing Yelp accounts has been incredibly fun, fascinating and frustrating all at the same time.
