Healthy cooking demonstration at Prestige Senior Living March 29

MANTECA - Where can you find food that is not only good tasting but also healthy? Right in your own kitchen, says Prestige Senior Living executive chef Ken Jones. As part of an educational seminar series, Prestige will host a community cooking demonstration with Jones on Tuesday, March 29, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Prestige Senior Living in Manteca, 1130 Empire Avenue. The event is free and the community is encouraged to attend.

Jones’ demonstration, "Flavors of Life: Delicious and Healthy Meals for the Entire Family," will feature of number of simple dishes that not only taste good but are part of a healthy diet.

"Eating a balanced, moderated diet is one of the best practices for living a healthy, fulfilled life at any age," said Jones. "For our residents, we work to create a diverse menu full of familiar, healthy meals, and now we’re excited to share some of those recipes with the community."

Attendees will be treated to samples from a complete menu that features 17 "super foods," or ingredients that are rich in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty-acids and are low in saturated fats, cholesterol and sodium. Jones will share tips on how to prepare heart-healthy entrees like charbroiled steelhead salmon with dark, wild ginger rice, broiled free-range chicken with dried plum and mushroom sauce and roasted pork tenderloin.

"All of our meals are cooked from scratch and made to order by an experienced dining staff," Jones said. "That means our residents enjoy all the luxuries of a fine dining experience while receiving the benefits of whole, natural foods that reduce the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and cancer."

Jones has more than 30 years of culinary industry experience and his "Flavors of Life" demonstration is part of an educational seminar series that will feature a number of seminars on longevity and healthy living.
