Grass fire burns 40-45 acres near Tracy

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY - A grass fire that broke out Monday afternoon burned 40-45 acres as firefighters worked for several hours to contain and mop up the blaze.

The fire broke out around 3 p.m., south of Tracy, on the west side of Interstate 580 where the freeway meets Interstate 5, according to Cal Fire spokesman Daniel Berlant.

Firefighters were able to stop the forward progression of the fire about an hour later, but had extensive mop up ahead of them. Berlant said no one was injured in the daytime blaze, and the cause was under investigation.
