Crime

MANTECA, CA - Arsonists are to blame for the destruction of three vans belonging to East Union High School in Manteca, according to the Manteca Police Department.

Officer Jason Hensley said police received multiple calls of an explosion at the school around midnight. Upon arrival, crews found three vans fully engulfed and a fourth sustaining damage from its proximity to the flames.

When the fires eventually burned out, investigators found some sort of wick in one of the gas tanks and were able to confirm arson as a cause, said Hensley.

The financial damage to the four vans was estimated at $100,000.

According to Hensley, investigators were reviewing surveillance footage from the school, but had yet to ascertain a suspect description.

Anyone with information on the incident was encouraged to call the Manteca Police Department.
