Man arrested after 5-hour Manteca SWAT standoff

MANTECA, CA - A 38-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night after a five-hour standoff with Manteca police and SWAT officers.

According to Manteca Police Public Information Officer Jason Hensley, officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Hoyt Lane at 6:37 p.m. in response to a domestic violence call.

When officers arrived at the scene, officers were told by witnesses that Shannon Leon Smith had made threats involving a gun and that he was likely armed, said Obligacion.

Officers attempted to make contact with Lee, who was inside the home on Hoyt Ln., but he refused to exit the property. During this time, officers learned Lee possibly had multiple firearms inside the home, Obligacion said.

Patrol officers continued efforts to contact Lee via telephone, but following their lack of success, called for assistance from Manteca Police SWAT and Crisis Response (CRT) teams.

According to Obligacion, SWAT conducted voluntary evacuations upon arrival, while CRT continued efforts to contact Lee with no success.

Finally, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Lee exited the home through the front door and was taken into custody without incident.

Neither Lee, nor any officers were injured during the incident.
