Are Stockton Metro Airport improvements in the "air"?

A $28.5 million, five-year plan has been proposed by San Joaquin County officials to maintain and support growth at the Stockon Metropolitan Airport..

A major component of the plan  is the construction of a U. S. Customs inspection station to accommodate international travel. A simialr proposal made in 2007 was rejected by the Board of Supervisors as being too costly.

The airprot had a recrod total of nearly 72,000 passenger departures in 2013.

Harry Mavrogenes, deputy county administrator and interim airport director says the propsal would allow the airport to accommodate many more passengers as well as pay for upgrades and renovation of aiport facilities including runways, lighting and signage.

Mavrogenens says he has had talks with air carriers about new Stockton service, but has no committments.
