Tracy to offer free document shredding to fight identify theft

TRACY– The Tracy Police Department and Recall Incorporated is teaming up to fight identity theft and fraud with a free document shredding event on Saturday, July 23.

Tracy Police Department wants to help you avoid becoming a victim of identity theft and fraud by keeping your personal information away from thieves' hands. This event gives residents an opportunity to gather household documents that puts their identity at risk when disposed. Tracy Police encourages you to take advantage of our "Shredding" event. Start collecting all sensitive paper documents, such as credit card statements, financial statements, pre-approved credit card offers, old IRS tax forms, bank checks, household bills, etc. to dispose of safely.

Residents can bring up to five bags or boxes of documents to be destroyed to Tracy City Hall’s north parking lot adjacent to 11th Street on Saturday, July 23,  from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or until the truck is full. Residents are encouraged to arrive early since the chance of reaching the trucks maximum capacity is high.

Tracy Crime Prevention Unit and Recall, Inc. will be on site to provide expert advice and tips to prevent identity theft. For additional information please contact, Crime Prevention Specialists Vivian Mendoza at (209) 831-6614 or Irene Rose at (209) 831-6581.
