Cinematic Treasures Series presents 'King Kong'

TRACY - The Cinematic Treasures Series at Grand Theatre will bring 22 of those unforgettable and timeless movies back for all to enjoy. The next movie is "King Kong" (1976) on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. The Grand presents two to three films each month for $4 per person, so the whole family can enjoy a classic movie on a Sunday afternoon.

TRACY - Come experience the live show "Dangerous Dinos" that will thrill and educate all ages at the Grand Theatre for the Arts, 715 Central Avenue, on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.

Dangerous only to those who would harm our planet, three dinosaurs have a mission to be earth-friendly, resist violence, and follow the four D's "Dinos Don't Do Drugs!" Adventuresome teenager Ty Rex, Rocko Gecko, and spunky Bubby are on a quest to wipe out drugs and teach everyone to be good to themselves and others.

'Barefoot in the Park' stage play at the Grand Theatre

TRACY - The Grand Theatre Center for the Arts, located at 715 Central Avenue, will host the play "Barefoot in the Park," Feb. 11 and 12 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 13 at 2 p.m.

The play is a Neil Simon classic in which a conservative young lawyer and his irresponsible bride struggle with marital discord after the ecstasy of the honeymoon gives way to the reality of setting up housekeeping in a five-flight walk-up.

Manteca library celebrates 'Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!' March 2

MANTECA - The Manteca Branch Library, located at 320 West Center Street, presents "Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!" on Wednesday, March 2 at 4 p.m. The Manteca Storytime Lady will read some Dr. Seuss books followed by crafts and refreshments.

'Iron Jawed Angels' film screening March 26

TRACY - In celebration of Women's History Month, the Tracy Women's Forum Association will host a film screening of "Iron Jawed Angels," on Saturday, March 26 at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the Grand Theatre, located at 715 Central Avenue.

The movie, featuring Hilary Swank, Margo Martindale and Angelica Huston, focuses on the women's suffrage movement in 1918.

100+ attend Tracy African American Association's Black History mixer

TRACY - On Friday, February 4, 2011, the Tracy African American Association (TAAA) hosted its first networking mixer of the year at the E Gallery and Performance Annex, located next to the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts, in downtown Tracy. More than 100 guests dropped by the free event to network and enjoy delectable foods and wines, while supporting the organization’s fundraising efforts.

TAAA places special emphasis on youth mentorship and education, and gears nearly all of its events and activities toward fundraising to benefit its Wayne Nelson Academic Scholarship Program.

Black History Month mixer in Tracy Feb. 4

TRACY - The Tracy African American Association (TAAA) will host a Black History Month mixer on Friday, Feb. 4 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the E Gallery and Performance Annex, located at 729 Central Avenue (next to Grant Theatre Center).

The event is free and open to the public. Mix and mingle while enjoying good company, entertaining music, refreshing libations, appetizers and a silent auction of delightful works of art. In addition, a raffle will be held of an original black and white photo taken in Haiti just after the Jan. 2010 earthquake.

Proceeds from the raffle will benefit the TAAA Wayne Nelson Academic Scholarship program. TAAA has awarded more than $56,000 in college scholarship grants to date.
