Free E-Waste collection

TRACY - The City of Tracy in partnership with San Joaquin County will host the first free E-Waste collection event of the new year on Saturday, Jan. 8 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Boyd Service Center located at 520 Tracy Boulevard.

The event gives residents an opportunity to properly dispose of their unwanted electronic devices. Additionally, styrofoam packaging and carboard waste will be collected free of charge.

The following items will be accepted:

- Electronics (TVs, monitors, computers, pritners, VCRs, radios, steroes, cell phones, telephones, answering machines, small countertop microwaves)
- Fluorescent bulbs (limit 20 bulbs per residents/business)
- Household batteries
- Mercury items (mercury thermometers and old thermostats, novelty items)
- Cardboard
- Clean, white (#6) polystyrene block foam packaging
- Holiday lights

Residents are urged to bring only styrofoam that is clean, white and block foam packaging. Remove any foreign materials such as tape, stickers, labels and cardboard.

The following items will not be accepted:
- Packing peanuts (most mailing service stores will recycle packing peanuts)
- Bubble wrap
- Food or beverage containers
- Major appliances (County Solid Waste Facilities accept these for free)
- Automotive batteries

If you plan on bringing more than 20 electronic devices, you must call (209) 234-7994 in advance to make arrangements with Onsite Electronics Recycling for bulk collection.

If you can't make the first event, the city will host E-Waste recycling collections throughout the rest of the new year on Jan. 8, April 9, July 9 and Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
