Join the Modesto Library for a week of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) programs from Monday, May 23 through Thursday, May 26. Each program is for children ages 10 – 14 and advanced registration is required. Programs include:

·  Engineering Space!………………………………..Monday, May 23 at 4 p.m.

During this program, children will learn about space exploration and will have the opportunity to build a model rover or space shuttle.

·  Build a Remote-Control Vehicle! ………………….Tuesday, May 24 at 4 p.m.

During this program, children will have the opportunity to build a mechanized vehicle using building bricks.

·  Snap Circuits! ………………………………………Wednesday, May 25 at 4 p.m.

During this program, children will learn about electricity and assemble electrical circuits to power a voice changer and other fun toys.

·  Magnets and Electricity! …………………………..Thursday, May 26 at 4 p.m.

Aerospace Museum celebrates Armed Forces Day with FREE admission & open cockpit activities

On Saturday, May 21, 2016 the Aerospace Museum of California will be holding an Open Cockpit Day from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. with FREE admission to all.  Wells Fargo Bank is sponsoring this event to honor our military service veterans. 

More than 20 aircraft will be open for viewing and for many of those aircraft guests can sit in the cockpit and imagine flying a mission.  Crew chiefs will be at the aircraft to talk about the history and missions of each aircraft that is open.  Docents will be in the museum to answer questions and talk about our exhibits.

Summer Exhibitions at the Grand feature Painting and Ceramics

The Grand Theatre Center for the Arts presents two new exhibitions, titled The Convict and a Boy – A Graphic
Novel by Kenney Mencher and I Don’t Get It – Ceramics by Bruce Cadman. These exhibitions are on display from May 28th through July 16th, 2016, in the GWF Energy and Souza Galleries. 

An Opening Reception will be held on Saturday, May 28th from 12 to 2 p.m. A Gallery Talk with both artists will be held on Saturday, June 11th, from 12 to 2 p.m. Mr. Mencher will be featured as Artist-In-Residence from Wednesday, June 15th through Saturday, June 18th. The residency will culminate with a Comic Drawing Workshop on Saturday, June 18th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The exhibitions, Opening Reception, Gallery Talk, and Residency are free and open to the public. The Workshop costs $10 for Tracy residents and $12 for non-residents.

Keep Your Home California Receives $383.3 Million in Funding to Help More Homeowners

SACRAMENTO – Keep Your Home California will receive an additional $383.3 million in funding from the federal government, allowing the mortgage-assistance program to help prevent foreclosure for more homeowners struggling with financial hardships.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced the additional funding Wednesday, the second phase of additional funding approved for the Hardest Hit Fund program during the past two months.

The combined $383.3 million will allow the state-managed program to help at least 12,000 more homeowners. Qualifying homeowners can receive up to $100,000 in mortgage payment assistance from Keep Your Home California.

Traffic Switch Detour to Temporary Bridge

Tracy, Calif. – Beginning Tuesday, April 5, 2016, pedestrian and vehicular traffic on E. 11th Street will be detoured to a new temporary bridge. The traffic switch will remain in effect through late 2017 until the completion of the new 11th Street bridge.

The bridge detour will consist of one lane in each direction with a speed limit of 25 miles per hour. Temporary traffic control will continue to be used to guide motorists and pedestrians through the construction zone. However, if possible, the City recommends using alternate routes to avoid the construction zone.

The City is committed to maintaining access for residents and the traveling public as well as
keeping construction impacts to a minimum. Please be patient and arrange your plans accordingly to allow for possible longer travel times. Obey all traffic controls and drive with
caution through construction zones.
