Magic show comes to Ripon library

RIPON - On Thursday, Feb. 10 beginning at 3:30 p.m., the Ripon Branch Library, located at 333 West Main Street, will present Magician Brian Scott's "Access to Oddities," a show combining magic, comedy and pure fun.

Scott has spent a lifetime being intrigued by the bizarre and strange world of magic, and has collected entertaining oddities from around the world. He creates an experience that allows the audience to not only see, but also partake in these strange occurrences. During the show, Scott will twist your reality, proving that the most peculiar oddities are sometimes hidden in plain sight.

Children's book clubs held at Ripon library

RIPON - The Ripon Branch Library will begin accepting sign-ups for the Children's Beginning Readers Book Club on Tuesday, Feb. 1. The book club meetings will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 22 and run weekly until March 22.

The Easy Reader Book Club starts at 3:30 p.m. and the Step Up Club starts at 4 p.m. Each club lasts about an hour. First through fourth graders are invited to sign up for either the Easy Reader or Step Up Clubs.

Participating children will check out a different book each week, read it at home and gather in groups the following week to discuss the books they've read. Both book clubs will feature a snack and an activity or craft.

Please sign up in advance at the library located at 333 West Main Street. The free program is made available by the Friends of Ripon Memorial Library.

Manteca library presents 'Amazing Anime Movie Show'

MANTECA - The Manteca Branch Library will present the Amazing Anime Movie Show on Monday, Jan. 31 at 3:30 p.m.

Come enjoy some of the most popular anime with your friends. The library, located at 320 West Center Street, will provide refreshments as well as manga versions of your favorite anime titles.

Barnwood Restaurant hosts Wednesday wine dinners

RIPON - Barnwood Restaurant has been hosting wine dinners for more than 25 years in the city of Ripon. Our wine dinners are held the last Wednesday of every month and we try to showcase California wineries as well as wine makers. The dinner usually involves dishes that are either fan favorites or something new we are creating. Restaurant owner John Mangelos and his sister, Ella, have written two cookbooks using recipes from the 275 wine dinners they've done.

Federal low-income housing funding available

TRACY - The City of Tracy anticipates receiving 2011-2012 federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the general purpose of assisting low and moderate income persons by providing decent housing, a suitable living environment, and for expanding economic opportunity.

The City estimates that its fiscal year 2011-2012 entitlement of federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program funds will be approximately $439,330.
