You know how you should never judge a book by its cover? Well…you should never judge a town by its news coverage.

Working in the media for years, whenever I drive by a new city or an area, the first thing that pops in my head will be “oh, that’s where that fire happened” or “oh, that’s where they found so-and-so.” You know how it is…every place has a story.

So when I had to visit a friend in Tracy, the story that popped in my head was, “The unidentified blue lights of Tracy.” Not that there’s anything wrong with UFOs. They are cool, but I was wondering what else I was going to find there.

Tracy toy donations pour in after hundreds stolen

TRACY, CA - Anthony Gordon wasn't certain he could make needy families in Tracy feel much Christmas spirit this year, not after hundreds of toys were stolen from his garage in Mountain House.

But when word got out that Gordon's toy donation effort was seriously damaged, donations poured in to make this years giveaway the best ever.

"What they took the first time, we've been blessed three times more. We have a thousand toys instead of 300 toys," said Gordon.

Gordon, his wife, children and other relatives, needed a rental truck to complete their rounds Thursday. Extra toys will be handed out Friday morning starting at 8:30 at the park next to the Tracy library.

Any holiday disappointment he'd been feeling, has more than disappeared.

"We will continue to make this a family tradition, and we'll continue to do this for years to come," said Gordon.

Tracy volunteers give 900 families brighter Christmas

TRACY, CA - The local organization Brighter Christmas has done just that again, 900 families with 2,000 children.

Wednesday was distribution day at Williams Middle School for the group that gives food to families and toys to children.

Brighter Christmas first started the holiday help effort more than 30 years ago. Lori Sparger was working at a bank when a young child noticed a Christmas tree in the business.

"I was in my early 20's. This little boy saw presents under the tree and asked what they were for. I told him they're for families that don't have Christmas. He said 'maybe I'll get one, because we don' t have Christmas either.' It just really touched my heart," said Sparger who added, "I'll always remember the face of that little boy."

Brighter Christmas takes applications for assistance during the year and performs follow up work to make sure each applicant is truly in need.

Here’s a four letter word that makes many businesses cower and cry: YELP.

In the past several months, the 3fold team has helped two national  restaurant chains with their local marketing efforts. While there have been all sorts of fun things we’ve done for these brands (including working with fabulous food bloggers), one social tool stands out. Setting up, promoting and managing Yelp accounts has been incredibly fun, fascinating and frustrating all at the same time.
